Natural Sandstone Patio Installation, Whitfield, Kent

Kent Landscaping have just completed this installation in Guston village, on the outskirts of Dover, Kent. A patio installation adjoining an an already exiting brick house extension.

The team laid the patio area directly outside large white-framed sliding doors, forming a clean transition between indoor and outdoor spaces.

We washed and sealed the surface giving the stone a glossy finish.

Materials Used

It is always important that we work with the client to offer and select the correct combination of materials. Here is what we used on this project.

• Natural Sandstone Paving Slabs - A multitonal mix of buff, beige, tan and light brown shades with a few reddish accents for feature.
• Clay Brick Border Edging - The clients wanted dark red engineered bricks laid right up to the frame the patio neatly, providing a durable boundary.
• Sand & Cement Mortar Joints - We ensured that joints are narrow and uniform and pointed with a wet slurry and a brush-in compound.
• Hardcore Sub-base - The compacted hardcore base provides stability and drainage beneath the paving.
  Bedding Layer - A sharp sand and cement mortar was used to bed each slab securely and maintain level alignment.

Techniques Used

• Pattern layout: A random rectangular pattern (often called a “multi-size Indian sandstone layout”) designed for visual balance and minimal cutting.
• Edge detailing: Brick edging laid first to define the patio perimeter and act as a restraint for the paving.
• Drainage fall: Subtle slope away from the house to prevent water pooling near the doors.
• Joint finishing: Completed using a wet slurry grout for durability and clean lines.
• Cleaning & Sealing: The wet sheen was achieved by cleaning and then sealing the surface to enhance color and protect the stone.
